Local Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a statement.
Police state they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered many other marked cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement say initial examinations indicate the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; authorities are not yet aware of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they added.
City officials stated they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for details.
A high-ranking official stated the vandalism rendered him stunned and had to be resolved quickly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he wrote on online, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
