The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Might Solve This

Each time a prominent prize-giving event nears, there’s always a demand to include fresh award types to recognize overlooked contributions and satisfy the passions of fans dedicated to specific genres.

A fellow writer previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. So would tabletop games, this being a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification backing this proposal stands as crucial and important of all. This is the request: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and typically generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why film award organizations avoid this approach. But it is a necessary evil in the world of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards presently include genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these classifications successfully include a lot of ground, allowing placement for most games within them.

Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, all very different: building puzzles in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. Which classification works among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers launched regularly lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive small studio competitions.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked for anything during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release missed out in 2019
  • Well-received sorting experience received no acknowledgment in 2021
  • Just some brain-teasers managed to sneak into niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent compact experiences, however the design of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Well-known matching games count as most engaged experiences worldwide continuing this trend for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game rivals popular creative games claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it also contends for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, and engaging with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. One could readily select multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

To emphasize again, these include experiences without proper classification at major gaming awards. Logic title developers operate at the hard edge interactive creation, producing among the purest expressions of the video game form. Similar to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait 35 years.
